The My Truth Movement In The Body Of Christ
This word may be a little different than what I normally release but, it’s a necessary word for the Body that needs to be addressed. In the last days, the Bible gives us a picture of what it will look like the closer to the coming of the Lord. One of the main characteristics of the end times will be deception. The Lord gave me a dream a few weeks ago about a growing deception in the Body of Christ called, “my truth.” What is deception? Deception is an act or statement which misleads, hides the truth, or promotes a belief, concept, or idea that is not true to gain personal gain or advantage (dictionary.com). Deception is nothing new, even the apostles in the New Testament had to address deception on a regular basis. Paul had to address the Galatians like this in Galatians 3:1, “O foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you that you should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ was clearly portrayed among you as crucified?” The word bewitched in the Greek means, to charm, fascinate, seduce, tell lies, speak falsely. Because the Galatians got away from the foundation of the Word of God, the came under a “spell” or influence that was not from God that was leading them away from the truth.
As believers sometimes we can be so quick to point out deceptions outside the Church that we fail to deal with the deceptions in the Church. A part of the reason why deception is growing in the Church is because, we have become so fascinated with gifting, that we fail to check the character and belief systems of the those ministering. What makes a person false in this New Testament era is not missing prophetic words unlike the Old Testament. What makes a person a false teacher, false prophet, etc is their motives and character. Matthew 24:24-25 NLT says, “For false messiahs and false prophets will rise up and perform great signs and wonders so as to deceive, if possible, even God’s chosen ones. See, I have warned you about this ahead of time.” This scripture is sobering because it says even the elect will be deceived. We need to stay humble and married to the Word of God that we will not be deceived. Discernment will be one of our greatest weapons in the days to come. Discernment will help us to distinguish the true from the false (Hebrews 4:12). The more word we have in us the more we will be able to properly discern.
A couple months ago the Lord gave me a dream concerning deception and I feel led to release it now. At the time, I was asking the Lord for wisdom and discernment concerning a situation because I needed to discern the spirit of the matter. In a dream I was given documents of information to scan through. As I began to read through these papers a phrase was highlighted to me, “This is my truth. The truth that God gave me. I won’t let anyone tell me different.” On the surface that seems like a harmless statement. But as I began to pray into the dream, there was something off about “This is my truth.” The Holy Spirit began to tell me many people are living out this deception thinking it’s a godly truth.
The “My truth” deception develops when we go through situations, ministries, or relationships and we get hurt and offended. When we don’t fully deal with the hurt and offense it can cause you to make inner vows that lead to a “my truth” statement. What we think is Holy Spirit is actually our wound or offense talking. For example maybe you have gone through a situation where you felt used or hurt by a ministry leader. From that situation you develop a “truth” that says I don’t need a leader in my life, all they do is use me for my gifting. Instead of dealing with the hurt we allow this inner vow to become a “truth” but it’s not God’s truth.
We must always check our heart and our heart motives. Jeremiah 17:9-10 says, “The heart is deceitful above all things And it is extremely sick; Who can understand it fully and know its secret motives? I, the LORD, search and examine the mind, I test the heart, To give to each man according to his ways, According to the results of his deeds.” How does one start out good and get into deception? Deception is so sneaky that often we don’t realize we are deceived until it’s too late. The posture of our heart can open the door to deception. Luke 21:26 says, “The hearts of me will grow cold/fail them because of the events that will take place.” When our hearts grow cold it opens the door to plant seeds of doubt and unbelief that leads to deception.
Not only are we entertaining deception in the Church by not properly dealing with it and addressing it, it’s opening the door for it to come in from the outside as well. When we don’t properly vet individuals or keep them accountable and put them in places of influence because of gifting, we are setting ourselves up for trouble. As we grow closer to the end time there will be many who present themselves in a manner they seems godly but really it’s the gifting in their lives that is charming those around them. Many in this hour see using the church as a tool in their, instead being apart it to help it grow and build. Even the more now and in the days to come we must be good fruit inspectors. Jesus said we would know people by the fruit the produce, not the gift (Matt 7:16) People are building ministries off a deception or what they believe is their truth, but it’s not the truth of God’s word. We must discern well in the days to come and measure everything against the Word of God so we don’t become deceived by the deceptions of our heart.
